Boz Scaggs And Band 1971 Rar: The Story Behind the Album and Its Songs

The epic blues jam "Loan Me a Dime," clocking in at twelve-and-a-half minutes, is at the heart of Boz Scaggs. The rip-roaring track written by Fenton Robinson has taken on a life of its own thanks to its inclusion on Allman's 1972 posthumously-released compilation An Anthology following the guitarist's tragic death in a motorcycle accident in 1971, aged just 24. "Loan Me a Dime" showcases a stunning and lengthy Allman solo as his blazing guitar takes command of the track. Though it sears and scorches as expected, the track is a true band effort, with Scaggs and his musicians playing off each other with rawness and grit.

From the July 28 announcement: Mitchell was at a turning point 50 years ago. After making four acclaimed albums with Reprise Records, including her 1971 masterpiece Blue, she left the label to join the brand-new Asylum Records in 1972. Over the next seven years, Mitchell would record some of the most acclaimed music of her career while changing her musical direction by adding more jazz elements into her songwriting.

Steely Dan will perform a four-night residency at MPAC! Each night the band will perform from a different classic album: The Royal Scam (Nov. 3); Gaucho (Nov. 4), selected hits from Northeast Corridor: Steely Dan Live! (Nov. 6), and Aja (Nov. 7).

In 1968, the duo found cheap digs in pre-gentrification Brooklyn, on President Street in Park Slope, where they sat around on ancient, shabby couches and plotted their assault on the music business. Amazingly, they soon got a gig touring as part of the backup band for early sixties hitmakers Jay and the Americans. The group had a production company, whatever that is, in the famous Brill Building, a once vibrant hive of songwriting talent that had now transitioned into a skeevy, decadent phase. Working with the group on the road and in the studio, the boys got to hear Jay and the fellows tell some even raunchier, funnier stories about the music business and also meet some actual gangsters.

The seventies were a grubby but glorious time for records. Many of those records never sullied a chart. Nor are they served up by the algorithms which rule retro radio today. These four CDs correct that oversight. Young Americans revisits classic rock icons in the fierce morning of their genius. Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers is unrepentant driving music from the days before the mandatory seat belt. Blue Boar Blues is dedicated to the legions of British groups who lived according to the white line on the M1. Finally, The Monstrous Regiment is a reminder of the female artists of the time, some of whom are just being recognised today. As my comprehensive notes modestly assert, more occurred between 1971 and 1979 than in any period of music before or since. This is not an opinion. This is a fact. This is a box set to prove it.
